" Gaia & Rey " , Langhe, Chardonnay (White wine)
Gaja
Elegant, aristocratic, and fine-boned, the ’14 Gaia & Rey seems delicate but it holds deceptive power; it dances like a ballerina, gaining momentum as it crosses the palate. Bright, juicy citrus, stone and orchard fruits mingle with crushed river rocks, baking spices, pepper, hazelnuts and a kiss of menthol in this precise ’14 Gaia & Rey bottling that makes the most of its challenging vintage. Deriving from Gaja’s almost nine-acre Treiso vineyard planted in 1979, this wine is named for Angelo Gaja’s oldest daughter, Gaia Gaja, and his grandmother, Clotilde Rey. Gaia & Rey ferments with naturally occurring yeasts, and ages for 6 to 8 months in oak barrels. This is an intensely age-worthy wine, developing tertiary notes of nuts, butter and caramel with age.
